When we have software in mind, another requirement for use is whether we will use our software on Cloud or On Premise. Today, Triforce will introduce you to what Cloud is and what On Premise is, and what are the differences, to provide an alternative for organizations that have not yet made a decision.
On Premise
It is a traditional software license purchase where the software is installed on a server owned by the organization. All employees in the organization can access this central server if they are connected to the organization’s internal network.
Below are the differences between On Premise and On Cloud.
- The organization will take care of the hardware, operating system and database, including backing up data (Backup) or performing disaster recovery (Disaster Recovery) itself.
- Software or hardware companies charge an annual maintenance fee, or MA, to cover upgrades or consulting when problems arise.
- In terms of accounting, On Premise software is considered an asset of the organization, with annual asset accounting and depreciation.
On Cloud
When talking about Cloud, it is like a large online storage for data that can be accessed via the Internet with just a browser. Therefore, using software on the cloud is like a subscription that can be cancelled when the contract expires or changed.
Let’s take a look at how Cloud is different from On Prem.
- The software owner is the service provider and provides hardware, operating system, database and other things such as backup system. The user does not have to be the administrator.
- Since the service provider can serve many and increasing number of customers, the software will be updated to the latest version by the service provider at all times.
- Can be used anywhere, anytime, just by connecting to the internet.
- There is no maintenance cost (MA).
- Scalable, such as instant database scalability, to support rapid organizational growth.
- Reduce the burden on the IT department within the organization
- Subscription is an expense accounting record, where you pay more or less according to your usage needs, which organizations can use to deduct from their taxes.
Did you know that there are also public, private and hybrid cloud types? Let’s take a look at how these three differ.
Public: Good price, free usage, can be used anywhere as long as there is internet.
Private: It is the organization’s own cloud, which is more private and does not have to share resources with others.
Hybrid: It is a mix between Private and Public, which is highly flexible because we can choose to store data in either Private or Public.
